As original members of ‘The Climate Project’ founded by Al Gore.in January 2007, the Planetviews team (Founder Michael Bailey) participated as members of a selected group of 200 people to advance the presentation skills and knowledge presented by Al Gore and a team of respected international scientists.
Michael is an authorized presenter of The Climate Project founded by Al Gore, who trained Bailey in the art of presentations pertaining to climate issues, ocean acidification and greenhouse gas emissions.

Presently serving as Operations Director for The Climate Summit, which uses interactive videoconferencing technologies provided by Cisco Systems Inc., Bailey conducts presentations and educates people on the growing issue of climate change and global warming. Michael Bailey is a noted conservationist and adventure television program producer who places a high degree of emphasis on action. As a key aspect of this, he leads skilled teams to research and understand diverse situations involving environmental issues and humanity as a whole.
Michael’s true calling was found young in life, when diving, conservation and international travel adventures began at age 17. At age 21 he began directing high seas expeditions which provided key film images for acclaimed feature television documentaries such as the National Geographic Great Whales documentary, ABC Television Network’s American Sportsman Whales documentary and Turner Broadcasting’s “From No Man’s Land a Porpoise Cries.”
Living and surviving on frozen ice flows in sub-zero conditions and enduring weeks of continuous action in storm-tossed seas proved to be excellent training experiences for his present activities, which include field cameraman and expedition organizer.
Michael is experienced with directing wildlife conservation projects in cooperation with television and news media agencies such as Turner Broadcasting, Cable News Network, BBC and TV-3 United Kingdom, Chinese Public Television-Taiwan, Asahi News Japan and National Geographic magazine. His camerawork sometimes graces the Animal Planet cable channel.
Conducting multimedia presentations at conferences, universities, Earth Day events and other forums is also a key aspect of Michael’s ongoing efforts to advance public education and further outreach into the international community.

Michael’s work with native tribes and villages in Alaska and Canada to protect and preserve the sensitive Arctic ecosystem continues. Advancing news media campaigns in Hawaii to protect dolphins, whales, seal turtles, native plant species, cultural sites and Hawaiian traditions is also an ongoing initiative. Much of this work pertains to documenting the environmental and social challenges being faced as a result of industrial development and environmental changes.
Creating productions using digital video technology, Michael’s skills include video and still photography, script-writing and producing. He is experienced with a variety of digital video editing application programs.
Michael organizes special group programs for those wishing to have unique experiences enjoying Hawaii’s dolphins, whales and sea turtles. Such personal experiences are based on the Hawaiian concept of “pono”. Guests are encouraged to exercise patience and allow the beautiful and curious ocean animals to approach when and if they choose to do so.
Memorable encounters with humpback whales, spinner dolphins and ancient sea turtles are frequently enjoyed by all participants.

As a conservationist and adventure program producer, he retains a special interest in Cetacea. Bailey joined Greenpeace in 1975 and volunteered to pilot a Zodiac inflatable boat in front of a Russian harpoon ship, resulting in iconic images of the whalers firing 90 mm harpoon cannons at activists that were to establish Greenpeace in the public consciousness. These actions earned him the nickname “Zodiac Mike“ or “Generalissimo“.
Bailey has played a major part in the raising of public opinion and government support against the whaling industry and as an official observer at the International Whaling Commission
Kuwait Wildlife Campaign
Featured on the cover of a National Geographic magazine, Earthtrust was the first environmental organization to enter Kuwait after the 1991 Gulf War, with Michael Bailey and Rick Thorpe assessing the environmental damage cause by the burning in Kuwait oil fields of Kuwait.

They subsequently formed the Kuwait Environmental Information Center and deployed oil barriers to protect wetlands and took action resulting in the fires being extinguished more quickly. This was memorialized in the internationally broadcast Earthtrust documentary Hell on Earth and a five-part Canadian Broadcasting Corporation mini-series.

Awards
In 2005, he was awarded the Anuenue Award by the Conservation Council of Hawaii for being the ‘Volunteer of the Year’ for his dedication to “Creating a better World for Wildlife and Future Generations” by documenting plastic pollution, campaigning to protect the Arctic from oil drilling and for working with indigenous peoples such as the Gwich’in and Inupiaq; including organizing the Arctic Film Festival.
